Deciding on where to place light fixtures can seem overwhelming. Keep reading for our tips on ideal lighting placement.

Double Pendants Over Kitchen Island

Leave approximately 12 inches from the outside edge of each pendant and the edge of the island. You’ll want about 36” of clearance from the top of the countertop to the bottom of your fixtures.

Dinning Table Light

Center the dining fixture over your table. Your fixture should be about 1/2 or 3/4 the diameter or width of your table to achieve a proportionate look. Leave about 30” from the tabletop to the bottom of the light fixture.

Three Pendant Lights Over Kitchen Island

Center the middle pendent over the island. Evenly space the remaining fixtures leaving 12” of clearance from the edge of your countertop. Keeping these dimensions in mind when shopping will help you determine the best sized fixtures for your space.

Over-the-Sink Pendant

Center the light on the window and faucet. Keep 30” from counter top to lowest point of the pendent.

Over-the-Mirror Vanity Lights

Over the mirror vanity fixtures are typically placed 80-84” from the floor and are centered over the sink(s) and faucet(s). You’ll want to ensure you have a couple of inches between the mirror and the bottom of the fixture.

Wall Sconces

Position 4” from side wall and/or countertop edge. Floor to rough-in distance is roughly 72” - this can by varied to best work with the height of the fixture.
